Little birds have to jump out of the nest if they're going to fly
[She didn't actually get nervous until they'd passed Ohio. The next step marked the furthest from home she'd ever been. She trusted Freya, at least somewhat, but home wasn't a place, a concept really was what it was. Home was her family, and she was leaving it on the other side of the country. It was terrifying, but she was equally excited, since she was seeing things she'd never had a chance to see before.
The country changed as they made their way across it, and as they neared the mountainous and wide-open country of Montana, she was in awe. It was just like every postcard she'd ever seen, and she was having a hard time thinking it was real.]

I'd love to hear you sing. [He already knows he'd love it.]
Why don't you go to college now? I mean with your family settled. You can learn about animals. [He smiles imagining her in his forest and once again he has to push the thoughts away. This is getting frustrating.]

I really only know a few songs...unless we're talking about Disney songs...
[And she nibbled on her lip for a moment at his question. She'd never even thought about going to college, or school in general, but...]
Well...you...have to exist to do that, right? I mean I exist, obviously, but...I...we went missing, David, for 20 years. Officially, I'm dead...

I actually know how to correct that. It's part of what I've been doing today for Freya though it's up to her if she wants to sign the papers.
[His smile widens and he settles back against the couch. He inhales and then exhales a slow breath. He wants to hear her sing and this might work... when his lips part he starts singing a song, one he knows painfully well.]
🎶I know you I've walked with you once upon a dream.🎶

🎶I know you, the gleam in your eyes is so familiar, a gleam
And I know it's true
That visions are seldom all they seem
But if I know you, I know what you'll do
You'll love me at once
The way you did once upon a dream🎶
[She trails off as though realizing what the song she was singing was a bout and ducks her head bashfully, though she's defeated by her hair being pulled back. Normally she relies on it to hide her face.]

Sensing her nervousness he continues with an easy smile. Most Disney songs are about love or friendship which in David's eyes is just a different kind of love.]
I'm pretty sure I have every Disney song memorized at this point. Remember, I grew up with four sisters.

You realize, at some point, I'm going to make you prove that, right?

I should study then... just in case. Maybe I'll start by watching Robin Hood tonight or Beauty and the Beast.
[He laughs softly at the last time as if enjoying a private joke. As night ticks on David begins to feel tired. He had a full day at work plus some extra stuff which brought him into town and then dealing with his mom yelling at him. It's been a long day but he doesn't want to ask Cat to leave, not yet.
Singer is asleep next to him, her tail flicking softly while her head rests on his thigh. Hunter is curled between him and Cat, the large huskies tail wrapping around Cat's waist while he curls against David's other thigh. Steve is smarter than the others and took a position near David's feet, as if knowing that they'll eventually have to stand. Dancer is curled up on Cat, her front paws resting lightly on Cat's leg while her head rested on Hunters side. Drummer was behind Dancer it and it was hard to tell where one husky started and the other ended.]

She stifles a yawn with the back of her hand before looking at him.]
I could watch one with you, but you look sleepy.
[Not me. I definitely don't look sleepy. Nope.]
no subject
It's late.
[He won't comment on her tiredness because its probably the most adorable thing he's ever seen.]
no subject
Yeah...it really is. [She runs a hand back through her hair, pulling down the hairband that was holding her hair in check in the process, it falling in messy waves around her face and shoulders.]
So, if we're riding into town with you tomorrow, when should we be up?
no subject
I usually leave at daybreak. 5 am but I can be a little late if you want to sleep in. [He'll be yelled at but it's Cat and he's having trouble thinking properly when she's around.
She's so beautiful.]
no subject
No, it's super late and I'm forcing you to go to bed late, so I'll be up at 4:30, which is....I have no idea how far from now...but I'm not going to make you late.
no subject
You can't make me do anything Cat. [Except she can.] I do these things because I want too.
Even if the end result is my mother calling me an idiot.
[He reaches forward and brushes her thigh while petting one of the dogs across her lap.] You should head to bed. Don't worry about these guys, they'll fall asleep instantly after you get up.
no subject
O-okay. [And she smiled before nudging Steve to move. She didn't want to leave. She was enjoying their talk, to spite being exhausted, and just enjoying spending time with him. It was time for reality to sink back in, though, which she had the sneaking suspicion would happen even more dramatically tomorrow, when she made her phone all.]
Good night, David. I'll see you in the morning.
no subject
[She smiles at her as she raises to stand.]
I'll see you in the morning.
[He wishes she'd never leave. He can fall into her scent, lose himself to the sweet hypnotic world that she promises. As she raises to leave he knows that the scent will never leave him, no matter how hard he tries he'll always belong to her.]
Oh and, sweet dreams.
[He flashes her another smile before lightly placing a hand on Steve.]
no subject
You too, you know, if we sleep long enough to have dreams. [She giggles and runs a hand back through her hair.] I had a good time tonight, David. You're...really easy to talk to. [She raises a hand in an awkward wave and exits the room, wondering where the butterflies in her stomach came from. She almost wishes she'd just stayed in the room with him, but the sofa was small and that would have been weird...right? Right.
She heads back to the room she's sharing with Freya, the house quiet. What time was it, anyway? She slipped in quietly, or at least what she thought was quietly, trying hard not to wake Freya.]
no subject
He just stares at the ceiling wondering if he'd ever sleep again.]
[Freya is asleep with the dictionary laying on her chest. She'd fallen asleep a few hours ago, waiting for Cat to return. Her eyes flutter open when she hears the doors close. She's a light sleeper considering the years she's slept in shady places.]
Cat? It's like 2 am... why didn't you just sleep in David's room?
[She blinks away the sleep, pushing her book to the end table.]
no subject
I woke you up, I'm sorry! I just...it would have been weird...
no subject
[She's isn't surprised that Cat doesn't just make a move on David. Her family is slow for reasons that Freya's only recently learned due to Kevin. She supposed that it was a good sign that he talked to her but then he started to avoid her so she assumes it was his way of turning her away from him.
It takes a lot of effort to pull her thoughts away from Kevin and back to Cat. She feels awful for letting her mind wander.]
no subject
[She crawls into bed next to her, smiling.] Um, family, and Disney music, and what a ranger does. I asked him what he does for fun, and we talked about that. Just...a lot of stuff.
[She looks over to her friend.] And I need to get up really early to go into town with him, so I can make a phone call...
no subject
Sounds like he really likes you and you really like him. [A soft giggle escapes her lips, mindful of those sleeping in the house.]
Wait... you mean to call Toby? You talked to him yesterday didn't you?
[She looks a little confused, clearly not yet understanding how protective Toby was.]
no subject
I...do, Freya. I really like him.
[And she nods.]
Yeah, I did. He'll be worried, though. I told him I'd call when we got here.
no subject
[Freya just laughs, shaking her head. She'd wanted to show Cat the world. She hadn't meant for Cat to fall for her cousin.]
Toby will be fine and we did just get here. What time are we getting up in the morning?
no subject
He is really nice.
[And she bites her lip nervously.]
He said he leaves at five...I feel so bad. I kept him up all night...
no subject
I'm sure he doesn't mind. Ugh... 5... I'm going to sleep then and you should too. We have like 3 hours of sleep left.
